Visiting Students FAQs
Q. Do you accept International students?
Only medical students from schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) are invited to participate in electives offered by the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine.
Q. Can alumni participate in Visiting Student rotations?
Visiting student rotations are only available to current medical students accredited by the Liason on Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
Q. Are there any fees?
Visiting students may attend the Pritzker School of Medicine for eight weeks without charge. If additional elective experience(s) are desired beyond the two months, the visiting student must apply for extended privileges and will incur tuition charges of $3,736 per additional four-week period.
Q. When do rotations occur?
Most clinical electives are four weeks in duration and begin the first of the month.
Q. When should I apply?
Students must apply for their desired rotation six weeks in advance. Applications will be processed July 2 - March 31 of the current academic year.
Q. How do I know if there is space available?
Please do not call to check availability. Rotations will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to students who submit a complete application. Calling to check availability will not guarantee a spot ina desired rotation.
Q. What is the deadline date to apply for this academic year?
All Visiting Student applications should be received at least 6 weeks before to the start date of your desired rotation. The application deadline for the final three month period of each Academic Year is March 31.
Q. Is a lab report needed for immunization records?
A lab report is only needed if the school cannot provide health certificate/s. Any immunizations needed upon arrival will be at the visiting students expense.
Q. What immunizations are required?
All visiting students must provide proof of immunity to Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, German Measles (Rubella), and Hepatitis B, Varicella, and Tetanus/Diptheria. Blood titers are required for Measles, Mumps, German Measles and Hepatitis B. Please see the Visiting Student Immunization Form (PDF) for more information.
